Councils new interim budget includes spending hike

The Leduc City Council recently announced that, after two weeks of discussion and negotiations, it has settled on the city’s interim budget for 2015.

The numbers include a 4.85 per cent increase in spending over the year of 2014, and it set the operating budget for the different city departments at $43.365 million, while the capital budget will be $8.44 million – two sums that come solely from tax dollars. It was noted that, by the time tax assessments are sent out in the spring, these numbers may be changed and adjusted.

These adjustments will be based on factors such as the educational tax requisition of the Alberta School Foundation Fund, which is set by the province and then incorporated into the budgets of cities and towns throughout Alberta.

The finalized budget will be presented to the public in May, and notices of residential and business tax rates will be sent out so people know how much they will be paying for the upcoming year.
