This June will see one of Leduc’s signature events return, as the Black Gold Pro Rodeo holds its 54th annual edition.
The centrepiece of the event is a pro rodeo featuring seven events, including saddle bronc, bull riding and the new ladies breakaway roping. Attendees are also invited to ‘dance up a storm’ at the Saturday night cabaret event, headlined by the Backroad Traveler Band.
The rodeo will also feature a midway area with rides, carnival-style games and more. Thursday night at the midway is Fan Appreciation Night, with discounted wristbands for kids with the donation of two non-perishable items to local food banks.
Other family-oriented events at the Black Gold Pro Rodeo include the Rodeo of Smiles, aimed at children with special needs; the Family Fun Fair, and a pancake breakfast hosted by the Leduc Kinsmen. There will also be a trade fair occurring across the weekend for new products and services, complete with food and beer vendors and live entertainment, making Business Cards as much an essential part of the rodeo as spurs and saddles. The rodeo weekend will also feature a parade, a classic car show, an “extreme cowboy competition” and more.
