After a successful inaugural edition, the Make-A-Wish Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament will be returning for a second instalment this summer in Leduc.
The Grand Slam is a two-day tournament featuring the “Slo-Pitch” variant of softball, which makes it easy for hitters to put bat on ball. The event is open to all skill levels, with teams of 10-15 players working together both on the field and off to raise money. Each team must have at least 3 female players. Money raised will go towards Make-A-Wish, which is well known for fulfilling the dreams of children dealing with serious illness. People can also register to raise money as a Fan without participating in the tournaments.
In addition to the main tournament, there will be a variety of events and entertainment taking place across the grounds, creating a festive atmosphere. This includes food trucks and a beer garden, live music, family-friendly activity, and raffles and auctions to further raise money for Make-A-Wish. Charitable events like this often use live speeches and banner printing to highlight the work that the sponsoring organization has done. The Grand Slam’s goal is to raise $105, 000 in total, with top contributors recognized on an online leaderboard.
The 2024 Make-A-Wish Grand Slam Slo-Pitch Tournament will be taking place at William F. Lede Park in Leduc on August 24 and 25.
