Charity auction to ring in holidays in Leduc

A long-running Leduc holiday event will be raising money for local families through an auction.

The auction is part of the Leduc Santa’s Helpers Program, which was created by 1983 to buy holiday toys for children whose families may not be able to afford them. The modern event includes a live auction as well as raffles for other prizes donated by local businesses. The auction is run through volunteer contributions, as well as valuable items from the community.

This year’s auction items include everything from bicycles and golf equipment to massage therapy sessions. Raffle prizes on offer this year include gift cards for Westjet, Leduc Goldsmiths, and Little Man Computers, as well as cash jackpots from progressive and 50/50 draws.

Santa’s Helpers distributes over 150 hampers featuring holiday gifts and much-needed supplies to local families. In addition to funds raised from the auction, the group is also collecting donations of winter clothing, toys, Books, and other gift items. Funds also come from an annual hockey event and a co-promotion with Tim Horton’s, both held in November. Charity events like this are common around the holiday season and often advertised through poster printing, local media advertising, and other methods of raising awareness.

The Santa Helper’s Charity Auction will take place on the morning of December 2 at the Leduc Recreation Centre.
