Blue Fest to return to Leduc area

Leduc music lovers may be interested in the return of the nearby Edmonton Blues Festival after a two-year absence.

The festival will feature many of the artists originally booked for the cancelled 2020 festival, including The Downchild Blues Band on their 50th anniversary tour; C J Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band; and closing act the Ruthie Foster Quintet. The Saturday show will be headlined by a special ‘Texas Salutes the Blues’ revue featuring artists such as the Texas Horns, Anson Funderburgh, and Guy Forsyth to bring the sounds of the Lone Star State to Alberta, with Forsyth also performing a solo show earlier in the day.

This edition of Blues Fest will also be the last held in Hawrelak Park before it is shut down for three years in 2023. The festival has been held in the Park’s Heritage Amphitheatre since its beginning in 1999, so this year’s edition will be a special ‘Party in the Park’ designed to pay tribute to the venue. Over its two decades of existence, the festival has featured hundreds of artists and attracted fans from nearby areas such as Leduc and Red Deer and beyond. Festivals like this typically use poster printing and seasonal ticket sales to help to draw interest.

Edmonton Blues Fest 2022 will take place between August 19 and 21 at the Heritage Amphitheatre in Hawrelak Park.
