What's Happening in Leduc, AB…

It’s a new school year for Leduc students, and the town’s Enforcement Services department is reminding children and parents about pedestrian and driver safety in school zones.

The Leduc Community Peace Officer is also asking motorists to keep in mind the reduced speed times in school zones. Unless otherwise stated, the hours for this are from 8:00am to 9:00am, 11:30am until 1:30pm and 3:00pm until 4:30pm.

The RCMP has also asked them to obey the posted speed limits at all times, to stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing, and to obey guards who are helping children at crosswalks.

Students have been reminded to do their part as well. Whether they are walking to school alone or with their parents, or riding their bike, they are reminded to cross the street using the marked crosswalks, to look both ways, and to make eye contact with drivers before they step out into the road. They are also asked to use the sidewalks when walking and to never accept rides from strangers, and if they are waiting for the bus, to stand back from the side of the rode until the bus comes to a complete stop.

A printing company has produced stickers that will be given to elementary and junior high students later this month. They’ll remind them of the rules of crossing the road safety.
