An upcoming walking workshop will help Alberta residents to make the most of their local area and discover how to source fresh food.
The Edmonton Permaculture Guild will offer living proof that it is possible to harvest fresh foodstuffs, even in the city, during the Ethical Foraging Workshop: Identify and Harvest Alberta's Wild Edibles. The hands-on experience will be led by experienced guide Denis Manzer, who has facilitated a variety of nature-based learning sessions.
The activity will take place at a local venue, and will begin with observational learning. Everyone will learn how to use characteristics such as leaf shape, seasonal markers and growth habitat, and a variety of edible species will be discussed. Attendees will also learn how to identify look-alikes that may be dangerous to consume. They will discover the importance of harvesting ethically, and the hope is that they will want to keep on learning even after the activity has wrapped up.
Foraging can be a simple step in living a more sustainable lifestyle, and it may be a lot of fun as well. Field guides and other learning materials can be prepared for an activity by Stationery printers, and they can include full colour photos and diagrams if desired.
The Edmonton Permaculture Guild will be offering its Ethical Foraging Workshop on June 14th. The location will be announced closer to its scheduled date.
