Print companies in Calgary join the hunt for volunteer graphic designer

A non-profit art organization in Calgary is seeking an emerging artist to showcase his or her talents on a volunteer basis.

“Promoting Artists, Redefining Kulture” (PARK), a non-profit organization supported by Calgary Arts Development, has put out a call for a graphic designer to join their talented team of people who donate their time to support and promote their peers in the art and fashion industry in Southern Alberta.

Billed as an opportunity to add value to a blossoming portfolio, the successful candidate should have several hours of free time to donate to the society on a weekly basis plus attend team meetings every two to three weeks. Duties include brainstorming and planning targeted event campaigns, creating ads for distribution via web, video and Print, artistic direction and execution of events including photo shoots, contracting with Calgary Print companies to produce promotional packages such as sponsorship materials, and if possible, web design and layout.

Graphic designers interested in volunteering with PARK should be creative, work well in a team setting and present credible references to the selection committee. Placement on the volunteer team would enable a young designer to make contacts, expand a portfolio and make themselves known in Calgary’s busy Print industry through PARK’s semi-annual PARKSHOW and the annual PARKSALE, a free event for both artisans and the public. Many of the society's events are sponsored by local Print companies. The next event is March 6, 2011 at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Calgary.

Potential volunteers can submit a brief resume and examples of worth via email to ourparkonline@gmail.com. Deadline for application is January 30, 2011.
