Calgary class plants container strawberry crops

Calgary residents who have always wanted to grow fresh fruit but feel they do not have the space may want to save the date for an activity that will show how easy container gardening can be.

Jungle Farm will be giving the inside scoop on small-space growing during its Strawberry Deck Planter workshop. The attendees will find out how to properly plant strawberries and take care of them in a way that should see fruit produced throughout summer and fall. As they will not overwinter, the planters can be replanted with more berries or a different crop next spring.

Everyone will be invited to choose from a half or full meter planter. All of the supplies that will be used will be covered by the registration fee, which starts at $43.93. Tips for growing the strawberries as well as how to care for the planters will be provided.

It can be very rewarding to be able to grow vegetables and fruit to harvest, and doing so has become a popular pastime. Attending a workshop can be a fun way to learn new skills, and a printing services company can prepare handouts to distribute.

Calgary Farmers' Market will be the location for this in-person introduction to small space gardening on May 17th. It can be found at 25 Greenbriar Drive Northwest. The session will begin at 2:30 pm sharp.
