Big Rock Brewery has been in business for a quarter of a century. To celebrate this milestone, they have rejuvenated their labels.
Dirk Van Wyk, of Calgary, was the original calligrapher and artist that designed the first labels. He was commissioned 25 years ago by Ed McNally, Big Rock’s founder.
Shelagh McNally, Big Rock’s special projects manager said:
“Initially Ed asked Dirk to design pieces of art that were fresh, unique and beautiful like the beers Big Rock would create.”
Van Wyk hand-painted the logos on the original three beers that were produced by Big Rock. Those three beers were Traditional Ale, Bitter and Porter and first came out in 1985. After that, he also painted the logos for Grasshopper Wheat Ale and Warthog. The logos on Lime Light Lager and Rock Creek Cider are the only ones not painted by Van Wyk.
In the past few weeks, liquor stores started to stock their shelves with the new-look Boxes and bottles.

The president of the brewery, Bill McKenzie said that over the weeks to come, there will be more changes made. The top signature brands will be foil-wrapped. Some of them will then be sold as singles in some areas.Get a Free Quote for Boxes
