Thousands of Calgary residents recently came out to help raise money to support those living with multiple sclerosis, and to help fund the search for a cure.
Two thousand people took part, and according to Darrell Gregory, who is the director of the MS Society’s Calgary and Areas chapter, the weather and the crowd’s enthusiasm combined to make it one of the best walks in a long time.
This was the 24th year for the Jayman BUILT MS Walk, and besides raising money, one of the goals for the day was to raise awareness about his neurological disease. It also illustrated the importance of adapted exercise programs for people who live with this illness. Gregory pointed out that some of the best research into finding a cure for this condition is taking place in the province at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta, where some of the leading researchers in this field are located.
The local organization spent $500,000 last year in providing financial assistance for MS support programs, and it is hoped that the walk will help to raise $570,000 to be used this year.Get a Free Quote for Banners
