Calgary plans innovative infrastructure upgrades

An innovative idea from Calgary’s city council will result in significant savings in the time and money spent on planned improvements to the city’s infrastructure.

Tenders for improvements and upgrades to Calgary’s West Memorial sewer trunk are set to go out, and with the project slated to cost nearly $50 million, any reduction in cost will be welcomed.

One idea that will help to achieve this is the use of a tunneling machine in the construction of the 7km sewer line, which will run from 52nd Street to 70th Avenue West.

The machine will greatly reduce the need for manual labor, and will allow crews to work 24 hours a day. This will result in an expected 14% savings on the cost of the project, and it is also hoped that it will be competed in 2016 instead of 2017.

Sound walls will be installed during the construction phase, which will help to minimize any inconvenience to those living in the vicinity.

In order to protect the current system in the interim, a sleeve will be installed over the existing pipe. This will prevent rainwater from seeping in and increase its capacity by 3%.

Firms wishing to submit a tender for such a project would be well-advised to obtain the services of a printing company, as they can create and Print documents that outline their proposal in a very professional manner.
