Next in the line-up is Jake Hegge’s Moby Dick starring Ben Heppner as Captain Ahab with Brett Polegato playing Starbuck. Moby Dick received rave reviews at its premiere last spring, at the Dallas Opera.
Bob McPhee, Calgary Opera CEO and general director said:
“It’s a huge production.”
The production received the joint support of these opera companies, San Francisco, Dallas, Melbourne State Opera from South Australia, San Diego and Calgary.
McPhee also noted that it has been a very long time since Heppner has appeared in an opera in Canada.
No doubt, Calgary Print companies offer services to promote the Opera’s upcoming season. Everything from show programs to Posters and Brochures can be prepared and completed in Calgary.
Finishing up the 2011-2012 season Puccini’s La Boheme plays, as McPhee says:
“...because it’s our 40th anniversary and our first production was La Boheme.”
Many of the cast members in La Boheme are from Quebec with this being their debut performance. This coincides with the opera and its youthfulness.
McPhee commented:
“You want hot, up-and-coming singers for the roles.”
Aida premiers this Saturday and rounds out the present season’s offerings.
