The ‘Resolve’ campaign is a movement organized in an effort to raise $120 million. Those funds will be used to create affordable housing for 3,000 homeless people in Calgary.
The campaign launched officially on Tuesday May 7th with a generous pledge of $11.2 million from Calgary homebuilders. That pledge equates to approximately 200 units.
Cedarglen, Qualico, Jayman, Albi, Morrison, Avi, and Shane Homes, along with Brookfield Residential Properties, announced the planned donation stating that their intention is to get production of the units started significantly faster than could be achieved with gifts from other donors alone.
The homebuilders could certainly create additional awareness around the campaign by utilizing printing services to create materials for display in their showhomes.
Chairman of the Resolve campaign, Alan Norris, also heads up the Calgary Homeless Foundation and was thrilled with the support that the local home builders have shown.
The intention is to use the funds raised by the campaign to leverage provincial contributions and further the efforts to eradicate homelessness in Calgary.
The Calgary Homeless Foundation was formed in 1998 and introduced a 10 year plan in January 2008 with a commitment to end homelessness by 2018. The program partners with a wide range of groups and foundations throughout the city seeking support from all who are willing and able to help with their cause.
The Foundation estimates that approximately 16,000 individuals are regular shelter users in Calgary. According to the statistics, approximately 20% of the homeless people in Calgary are under the age of 24.
