Calgary fundraiser plans on going to the dogs

Animal lovers in Calgary will soon have an opportunity to give some much-needed help to a local rescue group – and have a great time doing it.

The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew society will be hosting its very first ever ‘Jail n’ Bail’ event.

Local celebrities, including several members of the Calgary Flames hockey team, have donated their time to be locked up in one of the organization’s northeast facility’s dog runs. They’ll stay there, along with their significant others and canine companions, until they raise enough in donations to bail themselves out.

The celebrities taking part are not only people, but animals too. Two of them, Nero and Jeannie, made headlines when they were rescued from terrible living conditions and treated at the shelter.

To round out the day, there’ll be music, fun activities for the kids, and several food trucks will be on hand to feed the crowd.

If things go as planned, it’s hoped that their efforts will raise over $30,000, and a poster printing company will be able to produce all the promotional materials that are needed to help make that happen.

Most of the funds raised will be used to pay for the vet bill to treat the sick and injured animals that come into the facility needing care. Each week, members of the organization go out into rural areas, and they often come back with animals in need of urgent medical care.
