The New Gallery is showing the exhibit ‘Pioneers’ until December 15, with a public reception set to take place on December 6 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
The exhibit features the work of artist Jaynus O'Donnell and her “re-envisioning” of scientific images found in publications from the 1950s to the present day. She uses collage, painting, printmaking, and installations to get her point across. The artist works with paper she has acquired, such as Posters and maps. No doubt some of the images she works with were once used in advertising. This exhibit might appeal to those who currently work in Calgary printing companies and give them new ideas on how to use images.
Jaynus O'Donnell was born in Montreal amd has a BFA from the University of British Columbia and an MFA from Concordia University. She has had her work shown throughout Canada and the United States.
Another event taking place at the New Gallery will be a fundraiser for the gallery held at the John Snow House on December 15, beginning at 7:00 pm. It will feature art for sale, musical entertainment, and refreshments. Twenty folios, which were created by 10 artists, will be up for grabs. One folio will be raffled off, while the other 19 will be sold for $500 each.
The New Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm. It is open on the first Thursday of each month from 11:00 am - 9:00 Ppm. For more information call 403-233-2399.
