The second stage of the Weeip Park playground, in Midland, is now underway.
The first stage, which saw the playground become fully landscaped, protected by shade sails and themed as a youth zone, is now open for use. This stage also saw the installation of a grassed area, basketball hoops and a climbing wall.
Stage two is set to help the park appeal to younger children, with a children's playground that will feature cubby houses, a slide and an enclosed area for toddlers being installed. It is hoped that the design concept, which is built around the environment, will foster an interest in the plants and insects of Western Australia.
The Weeip Park development is part of the New Junction project to reinvigorate the town. The project will acknowledge the rich history of Midland, with the New Junction name referring to the early town name of Midland Junction. Informing the community of opportunities to be part of major projects like this can be conducted via brochure printing.
The project has been made possible by a generous donation of $1 million from the Stefanelli family, along with a $1.3 million contribution from Lotterywest. The Stefanelli family have been Midland residents for over 70 years and are well-known in the community.
Stage two of the playground will open in the next two months.
