First aid course runs in Midland

A mental health organisation in Midland is presenting a course covering first aid for young people experiencing mental health issues.

Midland residents can therefore learn how to serve as a Youth Mental Health First Aider in the suburb this year. The independent community organisation MIFWA is presenting a course called “Youth Mental Health First Aid” and admission is available priced at $534.38 per person.

Healthcare organisations often use dedicated brochure printing services to create literature that explains courses and their associated costs to those interested in enrolling.

Course candidates will learn how to supply support to young people with mental health problems. The two-day educational experience will instruct on adolescent development and the symptoms and Signs of common mental health problems that young people experience. It will explain where and how candidates can get help and the type of help that has proven effective. The course also covers how to give mental health first aid to a young person when a crisis occurs.

Topics include depression, anxiety problems and eating disorders, among others. On completion of the course and assessment, enrolees will be accredited as Youth Mental Health First Aiders for three years.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid will be held at MIFWA’s headquarters on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7. The venue is situated at 9 The Avenue in Midland, and the course runs from 9 am to 4 pm on both days.
