Midland residents are being encouraged to continue supporting shops around the central business district while work continues on upgrades to the surrounding streets.
Work has now started on the intersection at Clayton Street and Lloyd Street to raise the road level to allow a new underpass to be built. The roadworks are likely to lead to traffic congestion and City of Swan Mayor, Charlie Zannino, is urging residents to continue using local businesses which will remain open while the improvements are made.
The changes are part of a major joint project by the City of Swan and Main Roads Western Australia. The project includes the diversion of a rail line, relocating utilities, creating a new underpass at the railway crossing to create better access to Midland Health Campus and an extension of Lloyd Street to reduce traffic flows in nearby residential areas.
The council could use printing services to create information boards to show how the work is progressing and explain the changes that are being made, while local shop owners could also use poster printing to show they are still trading.
Work on Stage One is due to finish at the end of this year and planning for Stage Two which will extend Lloyd Street is now underway. Stage Three will finish the project and will connect the Great Eastern Highway and the Great Eastern bypass.
