Midland, Western Australia, is to be the site of a new five-storey unit development.

The planned development of 78 units is set to provide shared equity, social and full market value housing in what Housing Minister Colin Holt described as a high-priority region.

Mr. Holt said five units, specifically designed to include easy access for those with diverse needs, will be retained for seniors or community members living with disability.

A further 12 are earmarked for sale through the Shared Home Ownership programme to low-to-moderate earning families and individuals.

Property developer Psaros has been enlisted to help the State Government deliver the complex, which is to be located in Yelverton Drive, Woodridge. Midland’s train station is just around the corner.

The 3,595 sqm allotment was acquired by the Housing Authority from the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) in order to carry out the construction, which is expected to provide up to 80 jobs.

Mr. Holt said many hours of planning including graphic design work and document scanning had been implemented to produce the final result.

Subject to relevant regulatory and statutory approvals, the Minister said work was expected to be completed by July, 2018.

Mr. Holt said that the unit development, to be established within the Midland development precinct of the MRA, was estimated to cost $25 million and would benefit the entire community while at the same time respecting the area’s heritage character.
