Premium wine and food from throughout the Swan Valley, including Bellevue, Western Australia, will be featured in the 2015 WA Signature Dish cooking competition.
Swan City Mayor Charlie Zannino said the area was renowned for its abundance of quality food and wine, which will be widely showcased when it goes up against the three other participating regions of Peel, Kimberley and Gascoyne.
He said amateur cooks and foodies are urged to enter their favourite recipe based on the use of local produce from Western Australia via the ‘Buy West, Eat Best’ website which is a WA Department of Agriculture and Food initiative.
It is a requirement that each recipe should include one ingredient from either of the Peel, Kimberley, Swan or Gascoyne regions.
Two finalists from each region will be selected to contest the semifinals in Perth, with the four winners then receiving an opportunity to hone their skills with a mentor chef in readiness for the Grand Finale event to be held in Margaret River on November 22.
Cr. Daryl Trease said the Swan Valley gave entrants an excellent array of fine foods to use as a hero ingredient for their dish.
Top examples of the culinary strength of the region have regularly been included on promotional poster printing aimed at the region’s growing tourism industry, which is centred on its many wineries, rum distilleries, microbreweries and natural produce.
