The major upgrade at the facility in Midvale's Gray Drive is being undertaken by the City of Swan to improve the safety, operation, accessibility and functionality of the well-used facility, according to a council spokesperson.
Refurbishment works will take place in the gym, sports courts, indoor pools, creche, group fitness room, changing rooms and to the front facade and main entry. Upgrades to the sauna and outside pool section will be part of future works.
Members of Swan Active, together with local residents, provided feedback on the venue, its services and the facility itself last year, and, according to the spokesperson, the comments received from 445 people assisted in the refurbishment project's design stage:
"They were asked to identify what was most important to them, what would help them to lead a healthier lifestyle and thoughts about the current facilities and services at Swan Active Midland."
The spokesman added that work was also continuing on two projects close to Swan Active Midland, including the construction of a sports pavilion at nearby Ron Jose Oval. Midvale Skate Park, which will feature a pump track and skate bowl, is also due to be completed in June.
Public consultation on major projects such as this often include a graphic design of the proposed project for greater clarity. Work on the Swan Active Midland project is due to be completed in early 2023.
