The inaugural Sandalford Swan Valley Vine Runner Half Marathon will be run between the vines at the winery at Sandalford Estate in Swan Valley, just 8 km by road from Midland.
Sports Performance and Management Event Promotion are organising the event, and contenders can choose to run distances of 21km, 10km, 5km or 2.5km.
Participants will be able to run close to the grapes that make up the Sandalford wines, as well as enjoy the remarkable scenery. A half marathon has been run annually for the last three years at Sandalford’s Margaret River winery and the fourth annual marathon will be held there again in March 2017.
Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 by John Septimus Roe who had first served in the British Navy and then became the first Surveyor General of Western Australia. He was bequeathed the land by Queen Victoria where he planted the first vines leading to the evolution of the winery, which claims today to be one of the largest and oldest winemakers that is family owned and run. In 1991, the Prendiville Family took over the winery from Roe’s descendants and 2016 marks 25 years of their administration. Signs, Brochures and Flyers will no doubt advertise the event.
The Marathon will be run on Saturday, December 3 and is open to entrants of all ages. Entries will be accepted from individuals as well as team and family entries.
