The City of Swan is a step closer to making the Midland, Western Australia Oval Redevelopment Masterplan a reality.

The plan, which has just been adopted by council, will transform the Midland Oval precinct in a major redevelopment project that will include a lively town centre, a civic precinct, shops, offices, restaurants, and new dwellings.

According to a Council spokesman, the major project is set to revitalise the precinct in the centre of Midland and connect it with Midland Gate, The Avenue, Old Great Northern Highway, and the surrounding land that belongs to the Midland Redevelopment Authority.

Following an extensive planning programme that included investigations and research across the board, including social, economic, engineering, and planning considerations the project has been seen as a major step forward for the city.

The spokesman said in addition to 1,000 new dwellings, the redevelopment will deliver 90,000sqm of new office space, 12,000sqm of dining venues, and 25,000sqm of retail floor area, which he expected would be advertised on Brochures and through marketing services once the project was completed.

He added that the Midland Oval Precinct planning principles centred on creating a piazza-like space where people were the focus and a town centre could be developed.

At its recent meeting, Council also approved the sale of land within the Midland Oval redevelopment area, which advocates the building of an eight-storey, high-quality mixed use residential and retail development. The spokesman said the construction’s completion will represent the catalyst for the entire redevelopment project.
