Work has begun on the final stage of the Principal Shared Path (PSP) between Perth and Midland, which is being rolled out as part of the state government's Green Trails programme.
The final section is underway on a 275 metre strip near Bassendean's Success Hill Train Station. The work, designed in careful consultation between the local community and Bassendean, is aimed at improving convenience and safety for people riding and walking along the route.
Complementing the works will be the addition of natural landscaping to help provide extra greenery and shade along the route.
Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti described the establishment of the Perth to Midland PSP as being a significant milestone for the cycle network in Perth, adding:
"I am pleased we have been able to construct this important missing link which will improve safety and convenience for people riding and walking, while preserving much-loved local trees."
Major projects that benefit local communities such as walking and cycle paths are often the focus of local flyer printing campaigns.
The share path initiative has been made possible through a state government investment of $146 million. Construction of the final path, which will effectively provide a link between Kelly Park and Seventh Avenue is due for completion in late July.
