Parking in Midland might be set to become cheaper with the council agreeing to discuss changing the regulations.
A special meeting was held earlier this month to discuss ways to revitalise Midland’s old town centre as part of discussions around the Midland Access and Parking Strategy.
The council has previously indicated that it will introduce paid parking across the city, but locals have asked for a free parking period to be included to allow people to use facilities such as libraries and encourage people to frequent local businesses while still discouraging people from taking up a parking space all day.
City of Swan Mayor Charlie Zannino said it was clear that many people were keen to make changes to bring people back to the central business district.
The council will now consider a number of proposals, including one to allow people to park for up to two hours free in the town centre and the potential to introduce parking meters in other parts of the central business district.
If changes are made, the council could use printing services to advertise the free parking by putting up Signs and distributing Posters among local businesses.
