Jack Bromell painted a mural called ‘A Garden for Midland' on the Keane Street Medicare and Centrelink building, while Jessee Lee Johns’ artwork is featured on the Midland Public Library in Helena Street.
The aim of the mural project, according to Mayor Kevin Bailey is to revitalise the area's historic town centre with energetic and vibrant murals that help to make centres such as this more welcoming. He added:
"It is now a well-accepted principle of urban design that public art contributes to a community's identity, fosters community pride and a sense of belonging, and enhances the quality of life for its residents and visitors."
The latest murals represent different aspects of life in the local area with Bromell's artwork focused on the area's natural history with native flora such as Kangaroo paws and Bottlebrush featured. The estimated 2,200 people who visit the building daily are also able to admire the mural's calming colours such as the alluring blue pattern that represents the Swan River.
Meanwhile, Johns' work of art is a more technical representation that he says directly relates and is in fact, an extension of the library's functionality. Murals such as these are often featured on brochure printing campaigns promoting local attractions.
Other Midland sites are currently being investigated for murals in the future.
