Located on The Avenue, the $18 million mixed-use residential, commercial and retail building stands eight storeys high, on one of two blocks purchased by developer De Mol Investments within the precinct.
Kevin Bailey, Mayor of the City of Swan, said the recent opening was the result of many years of work, as original site development plans dated back as far as the 1960s. He added:
"We thank Mr De Mol for his commitment to the future of Midland and New Junction, which is on track to become an iconic, vibrant and diverse destination."
The New Junction project represents a hefty investment, with construction work estimated to cost $680 million, providing a boost of $990 million to the city's economy and about $2.2 billion to the state's economy.
The mayor said the new precinct, which extends over 11 hectares, is set to revitalise the CBD of Midland by providing a range of business and residential development, as well as excellent new community and public spaces.
Developments such as this can also provide a boost to established local businesses, such as Print shops that service the printing needs of newcomers to commercial premises.
A total of 70 apartments in the residential section have now been completed, with 150 more to be constructed by 2023.
