Five performances of the play Le Cercle des Illusionnistes (“Illusionists Circle”) are set to be performed. While set in 1984, the contemporary characters of the play walk in the footsteps of two French legends of the 1800s – Georges Méliès, who created some of the first cinematic effects, and Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, renowned for being the inventor of modern magic. A watchmaker by trade, Rober-Houdin became an illusionist and magician and is credited with turning fairground magic into an art form.
Perth French Theatre, the company presenting the play, commented on the production, which is in equal parts a comedy, mystery and love story:
“The idea with this play is to bring the audience into a dream with eyes wide open.”

The performances of Le Cercle des Illusionnistes will take place from Wednesday, September 15 until Saturday, September 18 between 6.30 pm and 9pm at the Crooked Spire Coffee and Art House at 71 Victoria Street in Midland.
The play will be accompanied by English language subtitles, ensuring no one is excluded from attending the event.
