Film festival returning to Midland

Midland residents have another chance to see some of Australia's best short films with the popular TropFest event returning next month.

TropFest is the country's largest short film festival and features a range of movies created especially for the event, all of which are less than seven minutes long. The filmmakers behind the best movies stand to win prizes, including money and the chance to fly to Los Angeles to meet film industry bosses.

The 16 finalists will be screened at locations around Australia on one evening in December before the winners are announced.

Midland is one of just two venues in Perth to host the screenings and film fans should look out for poster printing advertising more details nearer the time.

The festival was held in Midland for the first time last year and was so successful, the outdoor cinema became a permanent feature throughout the summer.

This year, before the films begin, there will be live music from indigenous Australian singer Thelma Plum. A number of food trucks will be on site to keep hungry movie watchers happy, and there will be a licensed bar.

This year's screenings take place on Sunday, December 6, at the Midland Outdoor Cinema in Cale Street. Entry is free, but space is limited. Festivalgoers are asked to bring picnic blankets or low chairs only. For more details, see the City of Swan council website.
