A long established Midland family has made a $1 million contribution to the City of Swan towards the establishment of a new playground for children.
The council recently confirmed the contribution made by the Stefanelli family towards the New Junction precinct’s Habitat Playspace, in which the funds will be used in stage two of the works, which are scheduled to begin in 2020-21.
A reflection of what once made up the nation’s classic backyard is to be replicated in the playground where children can play, friends catch up, and stories can be told.
According to the draft concept, the design is based on 11 insect habitats, each unique to the state and is being established with the aim of inspiring curiosity, discovery, and play.
Currently, the project is set to include a toddler’s corral, parent’s bench, habitat cubbies, a snout-nosed katydid (or cricket) climbing cubby, wetland play area and chrysalis slide tower.
A community consultation will be undertaken later in the year to refine the design. When new developments are in the pipeline, graphic design is often used to create the initial plans which will be submitted to the local authorities and community.
The director of Stefanelli Nominees, Joseph Stefanelli said that an inclusive and safe space for kids to play and grow will be provided at the Habitat Playspace.
