Completion of the first stage incorporates a dedicated zone for youth with landscaping, basketball goals, a climbing wall and shade sails, as well as a grassed area.
Weeip Park is also the location of a project featuring public art, which is being undertaken by artist Fieldey and a team of young people. Together, they are putting together a mural design, which they will paint during the school holidays.
In December, stage two of construction works, which involves finalising the play area with features such as a toddler's corral, climbing equipment, wetland play area, slide tower and cubby houses, will start.
Mayor of Swan Kevin Bailey believes New Junction, with its diverse array of business and residential developments, as well as outstanding community and public spaces, will revitalise the central business district of Midland. He added:
"Weeip Park is the centrepiece of this development: a vibrant space that honours the past and reflects our community now and into the future."
The area is also being designed to support families and community events. Often, these are advertised via local flyer printing campaigns.
Named after the Boora Clan traditional leader Weeip, the area will also include displays that tell the fascinating story about Weeip and the clan, enabling visitors to learn about the culture of the Whadjuk Noongar people, which extends some 10,000 years.
