City grants to benefit community projects

The City of Swan is offering $5000 to $25,000 grants to help fund community initiatives or projects in Midland and throughout the council’s five wards.

The funding is being made available as part of Swan’s Proactive Community Grants with this year’s grant pool valued at $50,000.

Criteria guiding applications for the grants are focused around four strategic areas including sustainable environment, community safety, social inclusion, health and wellbeing.

Since its introduction four years ago, the programme has channelled almost $150,000 into worthwhile community projects, according to the Mayor, who added:

"The City’s Proactive Community Grants programme is one of the most important ways we work in partnership with our community.

"We're proud to have supported such great work across the City of Swan, and we're continuing to build on that community capacity."

Flyer and poster printing have often helped build support for projects and events that have been assisted by the initiative.

Previous projects that have received funding have ranged from art programmes and multicultural events to youth wellbeing and mental health projects.

Councillor Charlie Zannino said the Proactive Community Grants programme is linked to the Community Funding Scheme (SCFS) which sought to enhance the development, social wellbeing and sustainability of local communities.

An online portal for Proactive Grants expressions of interest has been set up for eligible organisations that wish to apply before the deadline of November 8, 2019.
