Midland, Western Australia’s many talented young artists are being urged to enter the 2016 HyperVision competition and exhibition.
The annual showcase of locally-produced artworks is a popular annual event, organised by the Hyper Team and the City of Swan.
Successful entries are combined for major displays at the Midland Junction Art Centre and Midland Gate Shopping Centre, where marketing services and the quality of artworks help draw big crowds.
A Hyper Team spokesman said this year’s theme was ‘Reality Check’, with young artists asked to incorporate their individual views on reality into the artworks.
Many Forms of artwork will be represented in the exhibition, including short film (which is the newest category), experimental art, traditional art, sculpture, fashion/jewellery, and photography.
The spokesman said Midland Gate Shopping Centre has donated the top prize of $1,000 and there will also be prizes for individual category winners.
He urged artists aged 12 to 25 to apply to have their work in the HyperVision exhibition. June 3 is the deadline for applications.
Mayor Mick Wainwright said a number of Hyper Mini-series events will also be held at Midland Gate on Thursday evenings during the exhibition.
He said the events will include musical performances and live art battles, and provide a great opportunity for the area’s youth to put their artistic side on show while also having a lot of fun.
The free HyperVision Exhibition will be held from July 4 to 24.
