Set to be the new venue for the area's cricket, netball and football clubs, the project has been hailed a great community investment by Mayor Sandra Mayer who added:
“Sport and recreation plays such an important role to the health, wellbeing and spirit of the Frankston City community. This project will ensure local residents have the facilities they need and deserve to participate and grow in sports.”
She said the reserve's redevelopment has been made possible through funding from Council, federal and Victorian governments.
Major undertakings such as this are often accompanied by a graphic design of the proposed concept, which can be viewed by the public early in the development process. A concept plan is available for viewing on the council website.
The project will include the construction of a two-storey pavilion complete with facilities that are female-friendly as well as a new court for netball, cricket nets and an AFL standard-sized oval which will be larger than its current equivalent.
Landscaping, paths, car parking, a new coaches box, scoreboard and oval lighting will also be included in the redevelopment works.
The start of works has been welcomed by both the Seaford Cricket Club and Seaford Football Netball Club, with both looking forward to the day when players will be able to play and train at their own local venue.
