Community-minded residents in and around Seaford can take the opportunity to meet others at a casual morning tea get-together at a local venue.
During the fortnightly sessions, the volunteers and gardeners meet to tend their own garden spaces, help out with more general maintenance tasks such as weeding and bond over a convivial cup of tea.
The six-acre garden is managed by Mid Coast Sustainability Inc., a not-for-profit volunteer community group with sustainability and grass roots environmental action at its core. Officially opening in April 2024, the garden was transformed from a disused piece of council land and is now home to 38 raised beds, which can be hired by anyone. There is also an orchard containing fruit and nut trees, a shared community space, a greenhouse, a market garden and an indigenous food garden. It is a biodiversity wetlands hot spot.
Successful courses run on site have included a terrarium building workshop for school children and a free session on sustainable gardens in containers and small spaces.
