Soil sustainability lecture to be delivered in Seaford

Seaford gardeners, farmers and soil enthusiasts can now register for a free place at a talk led by an internationally recognised expert, Dr. Mary Cole.

Dr. Cole’s expertise is in soil microbiology, plant pathology and mycology. Growing up in the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland and taking influence from her father and an indigenous elder, she learnt from a young age to respect the natural world. Cole has also been endowed with the title of Victoria’s AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award for her work.

Dr. Cole’s lecture will explain the organisms and plants within the soil and how it is possible to support and protect, enabling human-kind, wildlife and the environment to flourish in harmony. Starting with a cup of tea, mingling and informal chats, Cole will then deliver her 45- minute slide-driven lecture, showcasing her breadth of knowledge acquired during a five-decade career. After this, there will be a hot composting demonstration outside, with light refreshments.

Informative events may sometimes seek to produce handouts that can be produced by local Stationery printers, to be distributed among attendees.

Celebrating the Power in the Soil with Dr. Mary Cole will be taking place on Saturday, 6 December, from 10 am until 12.30 pm, at Down’s Community Farm, which can be found at 190 Old Wells Road in Seaford. Tickets are free but it is necessary to reserve a spot.
