Nominations open for Victorian Training Awards

Teachers, apprentices and trainees from Seaford and across Victoria are being urged to nominate for the 2016 Victorian Training Awards.

The awards, which have been held continuously for 62 years, recognise innovation and collaboration within the training system, as well as celebrate the exceptional achievements of Vocational Education and Training (VET) employers, teachers, students, and training providers.

Training and Skills Minister Steve Herbert said the 2016 awards included 15 categories, 9 organisational, and 6 individual awards, including Small Training Provider of the Year and awards for apprentices.

Flyers and brochure printing promoting the event also list a Community Choice Award to be voted on by the public and the inaugural Lynne Kosky Memorial Award ,which has been introduced to recognise lifetime achievement in promoting VET’s educational excellence in Victoria.

Herbert said the awards gave the community an opportunity to nominate a VET teacher, student, company or training provider who is outstanding in their field.

He said people could also nominate themselves for the awards, which offer a prize of $10,000 towards future training to each individual winner.

Many winners will also go on to represent the State in Darwin this November as part of the Australian Training Awards.

Nominations for the awards close on May 26, with the winners announced later in the year at the Victorian Training Awards in Melbourne.
