New lighting to put spotlight on Frankston Park

Sports enthusiasts in Seaford will be among many in the City of Frankston to benefit from new lighting at Frankston Park.

The $2.8 million lighting upgrade will not only strengthen the appeal of the grounds, but will also enable the broadcast of Victorian Football League and Australian Football League Women's competition matches.

Works began in January at the site, which is the Frankston Dolphins home base, and involves the installation of four LED light towers. The commencement followed consultations within the community about the project.

Mayor of Frankston City, Sandra Mayer, believes the works will also shine a light on the city's many other attractions, adding:

“Being able to broadcast our sporting events is a big win for all of us. As well as showcasing Frankston over the airwaves, the lights will also help attract big games for local sports fans and be of economic benefit to the community."

She said the well-lit sports grounds will draw people to matches, and while in the city, people will also be able to check out local restaurants, shops and attractions, which can help boost the economy. Banner printing campaigns are often used by sponsors of televised sporting fixtures, such as future matches set to take place at Frankston Park.

The new LED lights, expected to be fully installed soon, will provide great flexibility in terms of lighting intensity, with illumination settings ranging from 100 to 1000 lux. The previous capacity was 150 lux.
