Mums Supporting Families in Need, an all-volunteer charitable organisation run by mothers and grandmothers to assist families in the Mornington Peninsula, is seeking
new, larger premises due to the volume of donations exceeding the storage space available at its current location in Seaford, where its lease ends in September.
Donna Cartwright, a volunteer at the charity, explained that at least twice the size of the current warehouse would be required to adequately store donations of goods including food and clothing. Many of the donations the charity has received are currently being stored on a mezzanine floor, creating difficulties with accessibility for some older volunteers.
As the increased space is expected to come with higher rental costs, the charity has been seeking new sponsorship agreements from local businesses to supplement the grants and fundraisers that currently support its operations. Charities often use newsletter printing to bring attention to their causes while granting publicity to their sponsors.
The current rate of donation allows the charity to provide hampers of food to ten families per week. According to Ms Cartwright, the food hamper program has had a strong positive reception in the community and played an important role in helping families, and having access to more space and additional funding will allow the program to remain sustainable, ensuring that the charity can continue to accept and distribute all donations.
