Playgrounds in and around Frankston and Seaford are set for a major upgrade.
Mayor James Dooley said work was already underway on a $300,000 upgrade at Seaford’s Keast Park and a $1m upgrade programme at Frankston’s Ballam Park.
He said a further $600,000 will be invested into the playground at George Pentland Botanic Gardens and $900,000 in the Frankston Waterfront playground.
Mayor Dooley said the aim was to better cater for a broader section of the community, both in abilities and ages.
He said families visited local playgrounds and parks in the area regularly and it was important that the play spaces were not only safe, but also stimulating and enjoyable for all involved.
According to the Mayor, scanning the new park designs reveals the use of natural components with senior and junior play equipment to suit children of all abilities.
He said the Botanic Gardens and Waterfront playgrounds includes plans for towers, slides, spinning carousels, and swings together with additional landscaping, shading, trees, picnic tables and seating.
Play elements based on the natural surroundings, with the aim of encouraging discovery and imagination will also be available in the form of sandpits, rope nets and rock scrambles.
The Mayor said it is important that these important learning and play experiences are enjoyed by all children and their families, and he encouraged feedback on the new designs before the deadline of September 20.
A four-month construction period is expected to begin in March 2017.
