Industrial precinct keeps Frankston economy growing at rapid rate

It's been revealed that the bustling industrial precincts of Carrum Downs and Seaford, Victoria have injected millions of dollars into the local economy in recent years.

Frankston Mayor Sandra Mayer said the precinct also provided employment for up to 6,000 people in an area where niche manufacturing has flourished despite influences such as the global financial crisis.

She said between 2006 and 2011, job figures in the precinct rose by 27 per cent with 384 of those positions based in the manufacturing industry, which was bucking the national and state trend of a decline in that sector.

Companies within the precinct include 5am Yoghurt, which has 80 employees. It is one of 13 beverage and food manufacturers operating out of the site.

Other success stories in the precinct include warehousing, postal, transport, retail, construction and wholesale trade businesses, with 90 per cent of the thriving precinct full.

The precinct recorded great growth after the land was rezoned for industrial use two decades ago, according to the Mayor.

Today the precinct which is regularly promoted through various company marketing strategies including brochure and flyer printing hosts four estates including the Eastlink Business Park, the Lakes Industrial Estate, the Parks Industrial Estate and the Gateway Business Park.

She said the industrial precincts injected $2.85 billion annually in gross output which represented 30 per cent of the gross domestic product of Frankston.
