Seaford’s local council, the City of Frankston, is bringing an evening with a well-known author to Frankston this July.
Brooke McAlary is the renowned author of ‘Slow’, which was published in 2017, along with being the podcast creator and host of ‘The Slow Home’. ‘FrankTALK’ is Brooke’s latest book. It was written during the pandemic, when it became important for people to approach care using a reasonable and long-lasting approach.
In her book, McAlary splits the care concept into nine categories, which include kindness, nature, connection, healing, rest, play, awe and making. She uses these concepts to discuss how people can display acts of care that are personal without being limited financially or socially. These acts can be half a minute long, half a day long or half an hour long.
In her podcast, McAlary encourages people to live a slower and simpler life. This way of living was sparked by being overwhelmed by life about 10 years ago. At this time, she had a husband that worked overtime, two young children, postnatal depression and a business. Her outlook changed when she started to minimise her life, beginning with garage decluttering. McAlary now finds herself living a life that has greater connectedness and meaning.
The FrankTALK event will be held at the Frankston Library at 1pm on Monday, 19th July. Though the event is free to attend, numbers are limited, and as such, it is advised to make a booking. Promotional Pens can be used at events like FrankTALK to help participants remember their attendance by taking home a souvenir.
