Council takes action on climate change

An Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Policy for new non-residential and residential developments in Seaford and across the City of Frankston is set to be introduced later in 2020.

The policy is part of Council's latest move to join an international movement that is taking action to reduce and limit greenhouse gas emissions, while also attempting to build climate change resilience.

The proposed ESD policy will see each development assessed with the aim of reducing any negative impacts that it may have on the environment, to reduce any running costs and also to improve the comfort and health of buildings for the people inside. The climate emergency has also sparked a number of other initiatives by Council such as an upgrade to energy-efficient LEDs for the municipality's almost 7,000 street lights.

Council is also taking part in a group-buying exercise to obtain renewable energy at the right price. It also has installed solar power on Council buildings. In association with the Australian Energy Foundation (AEF), the City of Frankston also offers a free energy referral and advice service for households. The topic has been the focus of many informative Brochures prepared by printing services throughout the country.

Residents can now have their questions on being more energy efficient with everything from heating and cooling to solar power and insulation answered by the not-for-profit national organisation.
