A series of sculptures is set to appear at public locations across the City of Frankston during the next three years.
Seaford residents will be among many locals to benefit from the introduction of new art pieces, which is being undertaken at a cost of $60,000 by Frankston Council.
Mayor James Dooley said Council is partnering with Sculpture by the Sea, a not-for-profit group, to install the sculptures.
The art works include Mike van Dam’s Intervention, `Mirage’ by Harry Stitt, and Keizo Ushio’s Oushi Zokei Hexagonal.
The Mayor said each piece was unique. The three-dimensional Mirage, he said, takes a form that changes focus and enables onlookers to see it dissembling and assembling depending on the angle of view.
The sculpture by van Dam is made of steel mesh and reflects on the rising population of humpback whales, while Ushio’s piece takes the image of a large bird with wings outstretched.
Mayor Dooley said there is a great interest in the arts among people from all corners of the community, while Deputy Mayor Colin Hampton said culture and arts provided an excellent way to lift Frankston’s image, which was the project’s aim. This can be assisted by printing services focusing on artworks such as these for Postcards, Calendars and tourist Brochures.
Logo designs by some leading community organisations, including the local VFL team, council and chess club, have all featured dolphins, which some locals believe would make a great theme for future public artworks.
