A Seaford level crossing is in the next group of crossings scheduled for removal by the State Government.
The crossing at Seaford Road is one of eight along the Frankston line that are earmarked for removal in the next three years, with work on another three already underway.
Community consultations will be organised in the coming weeks along with information sessions explaining the process. Ground investigations also have to take place as well as more detailed consultations with work unlikely to actually begin until 2018.
Printing services will be used to create temporary information Signs at stations along the line to explain the possible changes and how they could affect rail and road users.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the work would improve the rail and road network. He said:
"We’re getting rid of 50 of Victoria’s worst crossings because they clog our roads, cripple our train system and put lives at risk, and not a moment is being wasted in getting started on the eight crossings on the Frankston line."
To get rid of the need for level crossings, roads and railway lines are being separated by raising or lowering on of them and constructing bridges.
The removal of all eight crossings is likely to be done in one package in a bid to reduce disruption, with the project set to cost around $1bn.Get a Free Quote for Signs
