Magic of music to fill the air at childrens festival

Children from throughout Melbourne, including nearby Prahran, are being invited to attend the Music Play Children’s Festival 2017 during the summer school holidays.

Open to families with children aged up to 12 years old, the festival has been a popular annual event on local Calendars for the past eight years at Melbourne’s Recital Centre.

A Recital Centre spokesman said it gives participants an opportunity to play an instrument, discover music and generally make some noise.

The extensive programme includes free foyer activities, workshops, and mini and big concerts hosted by the industry’s leading performers, teachers and entertainers.

Presenters include Justine Clarke, of ABC TV’s Play School, who will join some cheeky monsters and a group of musicians to explore the art of storytelling and the magic of Books with those attending.

Another big concert feature will be comedian Lawrence Leung and favourite Aussie environmentalist Bob Brown.

Mini concerts will include star of cabaret Ali McGregor, who will perform accompanied by her jazz band and guest cabaret, comedian and circus acts.

The popular sound of All Day Fritz will also feature on the concert programme, along with Bellbird by Polyglot, which is a large instrument that will be available for visitors to play.

Music-based workshops including songwriting, playing the wooden spoon and learning about Chinese culture, instruments and music will also be on offer at the festival, which is to be held from January 11 to 14.
