An event featuring an expert panel in Prahran will explore how collections of the written word will be preserved in the future.
Area residents with an interest in collecting and writing Books can join this free event being held in the suburb. Entitled “Beyond the Book: Redefining Rarity in a Digital Age”, it features a cross-sector panel that will examine whether the most valuable collection will remain printed on paper or be stored in code digitally.
Participating panellists include Ellen Coates, the PMI Victorian History Library Collections librarian, Assistant Curator for the Industries Collection Acquisition programmes at NFSA, Johanna McMahon and Digital Preservation Archivist for ACMI, Taryn Ellis.

The panel will discuss how digital-born materials are now reshaping the collections that institutions preserve and look at the challenges of initially sourcing materials and the issue of obsolescence.
