An expert in local history will give an informative lecture at a community-owned library located in Prahran this summer.
Prahran residents seeking enlightenment on the state they live in can attend an upcoming event from the Mechanics' Institutes of Victoria. Titled the “Wesson Lecture 2026”, the two-hour talk is from Robyn Annear, an author dubbed as the “Troubadour Historian”.

The author of 10 titles on culture and history, Annear lives in Castlemaine, Victoria. The guest speaker’s Books include “Fly a Rebel Flag: The Eureka Stockade”, “A City Lost and Found: Whelan the Wrecker's Melbourne” and “Shutter City: Fragments of a Forgotten Melbourne”, the latter of which was released in October through Melbourne University Press.
Annear has also hosted the podcast called “Nothing on TV” that delved into digitised newsprint from the past, stored online by Canberra’s National Library of Australia and Trove Newspapers, as well as more modern stories.
The Wesson Lecture 2026 with Robyn Annear will now be held at the PMI Victorian History Library on Sunday, February 8.
