People in the Prahran area who were teenagers in the 1980s might be keen to buy tickets for Almost a Mirror: A Mixtape of ‘80s Pop and Post-punk next month.
The author Kirsten Kauth wrote a book named Almost a Mirror, which actually began life as a PhD project. Published in 2020, and named in The Guardian’s 20 Best Australian Books of 2020, it is a celebration of the ‘80s and the popular music around then, whilst exploring the larger themes of finding your place in the world, with reference to art, memories, loss and drugs. Each chapter of the book is named after an eighties song and the book is accompanied by a Spotify soundtrack. The Almost a Mirror event is a mixture of storytelling and live music based on the novel and involves a collaboration with top Australian musicians such as Sarah Bedak, Paul Haigh and Michael Simic, together with Kirsten Kauth herself.
Banner printing is often undertaken as a means of advertising events locally in order to reach and excite potential fans in the area.
